FOX Talks: Gantt breaks down final GOP debate before Florida primary

Jan 26 2012

Four GOP candidates took the stage in Jacksonville for the final debate before Tuesday's primary. Co-leaders Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich clashed repeatedly throughout the night. Rick Santorum and Ron Paul each sought to get the attention of undecided voters.

To see Joe Gantt, head coach of Texas Tech's debate team, break down the debate with FOX 34's Kurt Kiser, click on the video on the right of the page. (The video may take a few moments to upload).

Water board recommends tougher restrictions

Jan 26 2012

Lubbock's Water Advisory Commission recommended to the City Council the implementation of stage two water restrictions. Commission representative Marsha Reed said the proposal is driven by the city's growing dependence on well fields for Lubbock's water supply.

Relief should come this summer, when the Lake Alan Henry pipeline project is scheduled to be completed and will provide an additional water source.

Stage two restricts lawn and landscape irrigation to one day a week and prohibits the washing of buildings and cars.

"So what this will do is shepherd that very, very scarce resource should we remain in a kind of environment that we've seen for months now of little to no rain," said City Councilman Todd Klein.

City Council will decide on the proposal in a couple weeks.

Some Texas speed limits set to increase

Jan 26 2012

Higher speed limits will soon be posted on almost 1500 miles of Texas interstate. The Texas Transportation Commission approved raising the limit to 75 on portions of roads throughout the state.

The new speed limit will be phased in over the next 90 days. Drivers can't legally drive 75 until the signs are posted. Studies of speed limits on U.S. Highways, state Highways, Farm-to-Market and Ranch-to-Market roads are still underway.

In the Lubbock region the hike affects I-27 between Lubbock and Amarillo, and I-20 between Roscoe and just outside Weatherford. To view the map up close click here.
